Lenoir County Emergency Services, Lenoir County Department of Social Services Officials Warn Major Winter Weather Event Could Happen Later This Week – Neuse News

KINSTON – Lenoir County Emergency Services (LCES) and Lenoir County Department of Social Services officials warn that a significant winter weather event is potentially occurring later this week, particularly Friday and Saturday. There could be power outages and hazardous road conditions as a result of this winter weather event. LCES and Department of Social Services officials are advising Lenoir County residents to prepare NOW for this event.

Here are some tips from LCES and DSS on how to prepare: Buy your non-perishables now. Please be mindful of your fellow citizens and only buy what you and your family need to spend a few days at home Make sure your essential medications are replenished If you or a family member are using home oxygen , make sure you have extra tanks on your hand; tanks must not require the use of a concentrator in the event of a power outage.

Make sure you have flashlights with batteries handy in your home; LCES does NOT recommend the use of candles due to the potential fire hazard. Have alternate methods of staying warm, including plenty of blankets, making sure your fuel-burning appliances are full, etc. If you use fuel-burning appliances, make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector; it is also recommended to keep a clearance of 3 feet from combustible materials and the fuel-burning appliance To entertain the little ones in your home, have board or card games handy

Use credible sources for your weather updates; for example, Neuse News, local TV channels, etc. LCES recommends staying home, but if you must travel, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and keep an emergency kit in your vehicle (which should include blankets, cell phone charger, flashlight, etc.) pocket, water, non-perishable high-calorie food, car battery charging cables, and other essentials)
